Frequently Asked Questions
Bank holidays and what they mean for your money
Is today a bank holiday?
Select your country above and pick today's date for a direct answer, or leave the date empty to see the next upcoming holiday.
Do bank transfers go through on holidays?
Generally no. Transfers don't settle on bank holidays or weekends, so payments sent just before a holiday arrive the next business day. For international wires, the holidays of both countries matter - check each side's calendar.
What is the difference between a bank holiday and a public holiday?
In most countries they overlap almost completely: a public holiday is a general day off, and banks close on those days. "Bank holiday" is the traditional British term. Read the full guide.
Where does the data come from?
Dates are generated from the open-source python-holidays library (MIT), which encodes each country's holiday rules including moveable dates, and we refresh the dataset every year. Details on the about page.
